The Creative Non-Directive ApproachMD was created by Colette Portelance, D.SC.Éd. It is a relational therapeutic approach which helps one to improve their relationship with themselves and with those close to them. Respect for the client is an essential factor and the therapeutic sessions unfold in a spirit of calm, acceptance and congruency. This humanist approach acknowledges that we find our solutions within ourselves.

The therapist’s generous and attentive listening allows the client to give themselves over to the process with much confidence. It is with empathy and sensitivity that the therapist will show the client the precise manner in which they participate in the lack of satisfaction in their relationships. The therapist will guide the client in such a way that they will find their own solutions, those which are connected to their needs.

It is a heart based process which unfolds within the authentic relationship between the client and the therapist, with respect for the autonomy and freedom of the client.

With the possibility of exploring:

  • Difficulties in asserting oneself
  • Discouragement
  • Feeling isolated
  • Self knowledge
  • Self acceptance
  • Healthy limits
  • Self esteem
  • Conflict
  • Grief

The Therapist’s Role

Offer generous listening with sensitivity and without judgement or advice.

Accompany you while respecting your rhythm.

Help you distinguish the past from the present, reality from the imaginary.

Share with you their observations of the patterns that contribute to the lack of satisfaction in your relationships, thus allowing you to transform these into satisfying relationships.

Accompany you in the exploration of your own solutions, helping you access your inner ressources and tools, thereby allowing you to recover power over you own life.

To …

  • nourish your need to be heard.
  • tend to your inner vulnerabilities.
  • identify and accept your needs.
  • recognize what role you play in the lack of satisfaction you derive from your relationships.
  • discover your resources and validate your strengths.
  • be free to live your life in such a way that you satisfy your needs in a responsible and satisfying manner.
  • find an inner freedom allowing you to create your life based on who you truly are.

Who I am

After graduating from a five year course of study, I practiced homeopathy for 25 years, both in private and in a clinic. I tutored for the Hahnemann College of Homeopathy and Heilkunst for ten years.

With a desire to continue to support those who were seeking greater well-being, I chose to enrol in a three year program with the Centre de relation d’aide de Montréal. I have obtained my diploma in professional training in the Creative Non-Directive ApproachMD (1250 hour program).

In addition, I work as Care Coordinator at the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre. This role allows me to make good use of my generous listening, my empathy and my respect for the ability of each person to make choices that are in keeping with their needs and values.
